The Basics of Building a Website for Your Business

I often get asked how I made my website and sometimes you will hear people say, having a website is no longer that important in the day of social media. The pairing of a great-looking, simple, clean website with great-looking socials, in my opinion, is absolutely essential for business.

Having a website is no longer an option for businesses—it’s a necessity. Your website is often the first introduction potential customers have to your business and can be the deciding factor when they are researching companies to work with. Building a website may seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be! Let’s break down the basics of building a website and how you can create a professional site that fits your needs.

Choose a Domain Name and Web Hosting Provider

Your domain name is the address of your website, such as www.yourbusinessname.com. It’s important to choose one that reflects your business, is easy to remember and makes sense for your branding. Once you select your domain name, you will need to purchase it from a domain registrar such as GoDaddy or NameCheap. You will also need to purchase web hosting from a provider such as Bluehost or HostGator in order to store all of your website files on their server so that users can access them online.

Design Your Website

One way to design your own website is by using Squarespace, which allows you to create customized websites with ease without needing any coding knowledge. You can also use other options like WordPress or Wix. When selecting either one of these options, consider ease of use, customer support available, what types of features are included (e-commerce capabilities?) and cost associated with each platform before making a decision.

Managing Your Website

Once you have built your website it’s time to start managing it! This includes activities like updating content regularly so visitors have something new when they visit the site, tracking analytics data (like page views per month) so you know who is visiting and why they are there, as well as implementing search engine optimization (SEO) techniques such as keyword research and backlink building so that more people find their way to your site via search engines like Google or Bing.

Building a website for your business doesn't have to be difficult or expensive! By following these simple steps—choosing a domain name/hosting provider, designing the site using WordPress or another platform like Squarespace/Wix, and managing the site through regular updates and SEO—you can easily create an effective online presence for your business without breaking the bank! With some effort and dedication, you can build an attractive website that represents what makes your business unique while attracting more customers than ever before! Good luck!
